Quire privacy

The short version

Quire has no adverts, no analytics, no third-party trackers and no advertising identifiers. It does not sell or share anything. Most of it works with no account at all.

Without an account

Everything stays on your device: your books, your reading position, your highlights and notes, your shelves, and which stories you follow. Nothing is sent anywhere.

With an account

Signing in is optional and exists for one reason — keeping your place in step across your devices. What is then stored on our servers:

• Your email address, so you can sign in.
• Which books and stories are in your library, and their public metadata.
• Your reading position in each one.
• Your highlights, notes and bookmarks.
• Your shelves.
• Which serial chapters you have opened, and when.
• Daily reading totals — minutes and chapters, per day.

The device identifier

A random identifier is generated on each device so two devices can tell their own writes apart. It is not a hardware identifier and not an advertising identifier, and it is used for nothing else.

What we deliberately do not store

• Book files. Those stay on your device.
• Serial chapter text. It stays on the author's site.
• Individual reading sessions. Only daily totals leave your device — a minute-by-minute record of when you were reading is far more revealing than the total, and the total is all the app needs.

Deleting your account

In the app: Settings, then Account, then Delete account. It removes everything listed above from our servers and tells you what it removed. Books already downloaded stay on your device.

Who else is involved

Two providers hold data on our behalf: Supabase (accounts and the synced data above) and Cloudflare (the catalogue API and the book files). Book files come from Project Gutenberg.
